Harbor Park is one of the seasonal attractions managed by Delaware River Waterfront, a nonprofit corporation organized exclusively for the benefit of the City of Philadelphia and its citizens. Delaware River Waterfront has number of these kinds of attractions and Harbor Park was an attempt gone very right. It was so popular among people that they had to extend it for a couple of days than the original plan.

Spruce street harbor park is a vibrant destination location for recreational, cultural, and commercial activities. Hammocks hanging by trees, Colorful lights, Happy people, Handpicked selection of Beer and Good food is what harbor park is all about. Since it is managed by DRWC, Harbor Park’s information is also under DRWC’s corporate website and it does not have its own standalone website. This project is done assuming that it will be a standalone website that will have its own identity. For me, the current website feels cold and corporate. It is a fun place but the website does not reflect that.

The wireframes for the new website is amazing and I think it will provide much better user experience in the new website. As the slogan in the wireframe says, Harbor Park is Philly’s floating food and fun, it is a unique place where you can get all the good stuffs in a single package. In the day, the place is quiet, people just hang around, read books while relaxing in hammocks, hold hands, take selfies, etc and in the evening the place is one of the most happening spots in Philly with great music, drinks, food and colorful lights.

Based on these observations my plan for the new website (some are taken from Laurel’s initial plan) are:

  1. Since the spot has lots of greenery around, delaware river by side and bright blue sky in summer, I am thinking of incorporating these colors, blue and green, in the new website.
  2. The place is already colorful and bright that the website doesn’t need too many colorful blocks to reflect that, instead keeping the design neutral with less highlights so that the pictures stand out is a good idea.
  3. Although I cannot see the current website now, I think that their major attraction is upcoming events looking at the wireframes.  So I will definitely prioritize the events section.
  4. The place itself is spacious and there is enough space to feel relaxed, I will reflect that in the new website by allowing a reasonable amount of white-space because white space is good space.
  5. Based on the assumption that this is going to be standalone website, I will probably not use current branding elements.
  6. Harbor Park is clean and bright, so must be it’s website. I’m planning to use a clean typeface for the heading and subheading with enough line height and easy to ready body text too.
